Robert retired from public education in 2021, after 30+ years as a middle school teacher, elementary school site principal, and a district office administrator. The last 14 years of Robertโs career was as the Chief Business Officer for both small and larger school districts in California. He oversaw the many aspects of school districtโs operations, including food service, maintenance and operations, facilities, technology, and finance.
A focus over Robertโs career was working with students and their families from marginalized communities. Many activities and programs created and developed included students from low-wealth families, families of color, English-learner families, and students with special needs. The driving force was working to provide programs and services for those not fitting into the majority, and to remove the barriers and obstacles to provide access to all the opportunities our systems provide to the majority.
Robert is proud of his Native American heritage stemming from the blood line of his ancestors. Heโs been a member of the Chickasaw Native American Tribe of Southern Oklahoma since 1989.
Robert and his husband met in June 1992 at the San Francisco Pride Weekend Pink Saturday Night events and have been together ever since. They made their homes in both San Francisco and Oakland before relocating to Coos Bay in 2020 to retire.
