The South Coast Reproductive Justice Project works alongside communities and partners to dismantle barriers to affirming healthcare and to advance equitable access to reproductive and gender-affirming care across Coos and Curry Counties.

Our work is grounded in the powerful framework defined by SisterSong:

Reproductive justice is the human right to maintain personal bodily autonomy, have children, not have children, and parent children in safe and sustainable communities.

This means our commitment goes far beyond access—it is about ensuring dignity, safety, autonomy, and full liberation for every person navigating reproductive decisions and systems of care.

We center the lived experiences and leadership of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) and 2SLGBTQIA+ communities, because they are the most impacted by systemic injustice—and the most essential to transformative solutions. In rural spaces like Coos and Curry Counties, where isolation, stigma, and under-resourcing are real, this work is not only vital—it is urgent.

We are committed to building community-rooted systems of care that honor identity, protect choice, and affirm life. This is about more than surviving—it’s about thriving, together.

  • Reproductive Justice Workgroup

The Reproductive Justice Workgroup is a community-led space dedicated to advancing reproductive freedom, bodily autonomy, and health equity across Oregon's South Coast. Grounded in the reproductive justice framework created by Black women activists, our work recognizes that reproductive health is deeply connected to social, economic, and racial justice.

Together, we work to identify barriers to reproductive and sexual healthcare, promote access to accurate information and resources, support community education, and advocate for policies and systems that allow all people to make decisions about their bodies, families, and futures with dignity and self-determination.

The workgroup welcomes community members, healthcare providers, advocates, educators, youth leaders, and anyone interested in creating a more equitable and supportive community for all. Whether you are passionate about menstrual equity, maternal health, LGBTQIA+ inclusion, sexual health education, access to care, or reproductive rights, there is a place for you in this conversation.

When: Last Thursday of each month
    Time: 5:30 PM – 7:00 PM

  • Get Care from a Birth Doula — At No Cost

Did you know that as an Oregon Health Plan (OHP) member in Coos or Curry County, you can receive support from a professional Birth Doula at no cost?

    What is a Birth Doula?

A Birth Doula provides information, emotional support, and physical comfort during your pregnancy, childbirth, and after your baby is born. While they are not medical providers like midwives, doulas offer invaluable support for your overall well-being.

Community Care is Reproductive Justice

Reproductive justice extends far beyond healthcare alone. It encompasses the right to access quality healthcare, abortion care, contraception, family planning services, maternal health support, birth support, midwifery and doula care, mental health services, and menstrual equity. It also includes access to comprehensive and inclusive sexual health education, gender-affirming healthcare, and the ability for LGBTQIA+ individuals to live safely and authentically. Reproductive justice recognizes that our ability to make decisions about our bodies and families is deeply connected to housing stability, food security, economic opportunity, immigrant justice, disability justice, environmental justice, and freedom from violence. It includes creating opportunities for youth empowerment, fostering healthy relationships, and building safe, thriving communities where all people have the resources, support, and autonomy needed to care for themselves, raise families, and pursue their futures with dignity.
