Honoring Tradition Through Collaboration: SCHECโs Role in Dรญa de Muertos
At the South Coast Health Equity Coalition (SCHEC), we believe in the power of cultural celebration as a vehicle for healing, memory, and community connection. Our involvement in Dรญa de Muertos (Day of the Dead) regional collaboration reflects this deep commitment.
Our Role in the Planning Process
As a partner and convener, SCHEC helps bring together Latine-led organizations, cultural practitioners, youth leaders, and local institutions across Coos and Curry counties. We support and uplift the voices of those for whom Dรญa de Muertos is not just an event, but a sacred and ancestral tradition.
Our contributions include:
Hosting and facilitating bilingual planning spaces rooted in cultural humility
Supporting event logistics, communications, and resource-sharing
Uplifting the leadership of community members most connected to the tradition
Ensuring that events are accessible, inclusive, and affirming for allโespecially BIPOC, immigrant, and multilingual families
Why It Matters
Dรญa de Muertos is about more than altars and marigoldsโitโs about the intergenerational stories that shape us, and the collective care we hold for our ancestors and each other. Through this work, SCHEC continues to center community knowledge, resilience, and cultural preservation as core to health equity.
