Our Why

The South Coast Equity Coalition is part of a statewide initiative that serves as a bridge to historically underserved and underrepresented communities. Our goal is to empower diverse groups to become involved in developing unique, culturally appropriate solutions to pervasive issues of inequity that impact the health outcomes and wellbeing of community members.

Who We Advocate For

Our priority populations are:

  • Communities of color

  • Tribal Nations with ancestral ties to Coos & Curry Counties

  • Immigrants and Refugees

  • Migrant and Seasonal Farmworkers

  • Low-income populations

  • People with Disabilities &

  • LGBTQIA2S+ communities

Communities of color is defined as members of the following racial or ethnic communities: American Indian/ Alaska Native; Hispanic/Latino/a/x; Asian; Native Hawaiians/Pacific Islanders; Black/African American; Middle Eastern/North African; Mixed race individuals; or other racial or ethnic minorities.

Our Activities

Working with our community partners, the South Coast Equity Coalition promotes health equity through outreach and education, sponsorships for cultural events, youth engagement opportunities, and other activities. We also offer opportunities for community members to get involved. Current workgroups include: Community Connection, Peer Learning Circle and Resource Sharing, Equity, Diversity, And Inclusion Engagement, Community and Professional Trainings, Policy Builders, Needs Analysis, System and Policy Change.

Achieving health equity requires the ongoing collaboration of all communities and sectors, including the tribal governments to address the equitable distribution or redistribution of resources and power; and recognizing, reconciling, and rectifying historical and contemporary injustices.
